I just recently moved to Edison...well technically my apt is right on the border of Edison and Metuchen and I'm right off Rt 1. I have a job interview in Princeton Township and was hoping to get an idea of what kind of commute I would be looking at. According to Google Maps, I am looking at about 40 minutes. Can anyone tell me how the traffic situation on Rt 1 South or NJ-27 would impact the commute?
Also any secret backways you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
Route 1 is really about your only choice, unfortunately- anything else would require you to stray too far from your starting point to be worthwhile. 40 minutes might be enough if you're not in the middle of rush hour, and assuming the weather is good- it'll also depend on where exactly in Princeton you're ending your trip.
I'd budget at least an hour, but would probably feel safer at 1.5 hours just to make sure I wasn't late for the interview.

I 2nd that. From where your at no real back way to Princeton.
I used to do this commute daily from Edison, off Roxy Ave. to Plainsboro - Scudders mill Rd. It would take me 40 minutes on average in the morning (leaving my house at 7-715 am. Coming home I would leave at around 4:30 and I would reach home anywhere from 515-545 depending on the traffic that day and any accidents. For a while on the way home I would take the Turnpike from rte 130.
