My husband and I are house hunting and trying to stick to the east side of RTE 9. However, there are a few houses to the west of route 9, basically off of 18 we like. On googlemaps it says it will take 10 minutes to get from the house (/which is slightly north of the Raritan Bay Medical Center) to route 18 and tices lane where the bus goes to NYC. Is this actually realistic? I hear traffic is horrible. Anyone have any info? Thanks!

Rt. 18 can be pretty horrid. If you can, drive in the area you're interested in before making your decision.

18 through East Brunswick gets clogged rather quickly. In Old Bridge it is not as bad. There is not much along that stretch of 18 other than a Super Wawa and a Dunkin Donuts. And of course the hospital, Raritan Bay Medical Center. You can take Old Bridge Tpk (CR 527) to get to Tices Ln.

To be blunt, 10 minutes from St. Thomas parish, Old Bridge (the large brown brick church and school on the southbound side of Route 18) to the Tices Lane Park and Ride might be realistic about off-peak (10 AM to 3 PM). During rush hour (6 AM to 10 AM and 3 PM to ~7 PM), I don't see that happening. Around 15 to 20 minutes might be more like it, especially in the teeth of the time (7 AM to 9 AM and 4 PM to 6 PM).

Since you are looking to get to the Tices Lane Transportation Center behind the old Sam's Club, it may make more sense to go up Rte. 18 to County Rte. 527/Old Bridge Tpke. Take 527/Old Bridge Tpke. north to the back end of the TCC. Certainly there will be lights along the route and traffic, but it will keep you off 18.

Just a thought...
