Hey everyone,
Although I am continuing my home search I have a problem with the home I already own in Jersey City. Although I live in such a urban area we keep spotting a racoon in the back yard. The problem I think stems from next door neighbor's unkept, very cluttered and messy backyard.

Is there a law in Jersey City that the backyard be kept in non-hazardous condition? How can I report such a thing anonymously?

I live in a well maintained area and there are plenty of raccoons.

Some of them have rabies. Also, they can get into a fight with your cat or dog, especially if they have babies nearby. Kill your cat and mess up the dog as they have sharp nails and sharp teeth.

OP, you may need to call someone like Critter Control: http://www.crittercontrol.com/

I don't think junk attracts them, food does. Do they have uncovered trash cans? We had one last year in OC, where I have never seen them before, discovered munching away in our dumpster one night! It isn't even a grassy area but a concrete parking lot!

They also seem to like building nests in chimneys. At least we had a family over here in No Brunswick a few years ago that had to be evicted. Maybe it's the warmth that attracted them?

Call the city and report possible code violations.

Racoons go everywhere; they couldn't care less if a yard is unkempt.
