Due to issues with my daughters bio father...the more info I can get from first hand knowledge the better.

I believe I am moving to middlesex county. Can anyone tell me about the schools (hers will be McKinley according to board of ed), the area? How does it rate. Ive tried google for everything but cant find much other than standard info. As I said the more first hand knowledge I can get the better it is.

I appreciate the help

New Brunswick is not known for good schools. Great Schools gives McKinley a 2 out of 10 - McKinley Community Elementary School - New Brunswick, New Jersey - NJ - School overview

Not sure if their rating is justified but you can get a sense that it is rated very poorly.

If you are looking for better schools, try Piscataway or North Brunswick - both within 10 minutes from New Brunswick and a lot better schools.

unfortunatly the address is set for now. Though I will be able to relocate in about a year after that. Then I will be able to better be more picky about schools and such.

For now Im more worried about the area we will be living. We are moving in with friends (no choice about moving either)

or do they allow children to go to schools outside their district there. I know it is possible here in CT but not sure about NJ

Yes, you are moving into Middlesex County. New Brunswick is the county seat.

Here are some links to help you out regarding the school.

The Board of Education is found at New Brunswick Public Schools

The website for the McKinley School is located at McKinley Community School

My understanding is that students in new Brunswick are required to attend the neighborhood school they are assigned to. However, I would strongly urge you to contact the BOE to find out the specifics of registration and school assignment.

As for a few other links to give you insight about New Brunswick, here are several that should help:

New Brunswick City Market

City of New Brunswick
