My wife and I are considering moving from ny to nj and purchase a property in crystal springs golf resort which is in hamburg, nj. We need advice on the area, school, especially traffic in the morning going towards downtown manhattan. We plan to leave the house around 5:30 to 6 am. I have heard that traffic is high on 80 and 280 during rush hours. Is leaving at the time stated early enough to beat rush hours or we are getting into something with long commuting hours.

80 can be horrible. Nightmarish. Its used by many people that live in PA or western NJ to get to JC, Hoboken and NYC. And used by everyone else in between! Rush hour can be bad- but if you leave at 6, depending on how far you have to go, it could be ok. Course again, depends on how far you have to go. I take 287, it takes me 1 hr to travel 22 miles.

Post I live in Sussex cty...

not in Hamburg but nearby. Schools are great with lots of rec programs for kids. Not sure how far you have to travel into NY, but your best bet is to leave by 5:30. If you leave after 6 you will find yourself in a traffic nightmare. You will have to take either Rt 23 or Rt15. Each of these roads have their own problems but it is all we have up here for now.

Best of luck with your decision. The long ride and traffic are worth it to some of us who want to get away and slow down a little.
