Indeed PH is a very nice neighborhood. I just get so p*ssed off when every post relating to Jersey City always looks like this "JC/Hoboken". THEY HAVE NOTHING IN COMMON ASIDE FROM A PATH STATION!
Agreed, JC (downtown/historic JC) and Hoboken very different. The demographics are different, the feel of the neighborhods, the amenities (food, shopping, parks, etc.). I am a big fan of Hoboken. However, I am looking at buying in PH. I see that neighborhood being a great value proposition 5 to 10 years from now. Goldman is building out the park on the inlet, 77 Hudson is getting close to soldout, Crystal Point is sold out. Another new high-end residential tower is going-up next to 77 H in Q12013. The downside to JC is that once you "cross the tracks" it turns to $hit in a hurry. That doesn't happen in Hoboken.
That's really about it for the "younger crowd" of singles, and if anything Jersey City is a bit of an older demographic than either Edgewater or Hoboken.
For the older crowd, you have nice suburban towns like Ridgewood, Summit, Red Bank, and probably a few others which I cannot even recall right now.
Agreed that JC is not Hoboken, but Paulus Hook is an up and coming area. If you want or need to be need near NYC, Morristown doesn't work.
I don't know any world in which Paulus Hook would be "up and coming". It's been gentrified for many years, and is generally more expensive than anywhere in Hoboken.

Basically, it's been "up" for a while, LOL.
There's still A LOT of vacant land in Paulus Hook and the surrounding water front area. Juxtaposed to Hoboken, PH isn't as mature, hence my "up and coming" tag. Once PH is fully developed, I think it will be on par or perhaps superior to Hoboken. At this point, Hoboken is a more mature and fully-developed community. Google Earth PH and the water front area to observe the plethora of vacant sites still available for future development.
Holy crap. Never move to West New York on purpose. Certainly not if you want a small town feel. Certainly not unless Spanish is your preferred language. I am stuck here. I hate it. A police officer who is a brother of a friend here in West New York warned his brother to tell his friends - women, even one pregnant woman wearing a dress - were being sexually assaulted. During the day. In West New York right on Bergenline Avenue amidst sidewalk shopping pedestrians. Are you female? Then don't move here. My friend was raped in West New York as well.
Edgewater isn't a small community but you can get around with buses.
Don't move to River Road. It floods every couple years and you might be told to evacuate. It happened in 2011 and 2012.
Fairview sucks. It is full of single men and not of the professional type of jobs. Of the type that will hang out in large groups at all hours of the day and night on the street. And they will most definitely make you feel eye-molested. And I dont know if its a good thing or a bad thing that I can't understand what they are saying. Or slurring or growling or yelling. Just cross the street instead of passing thru that group of a dozen perverted looking youngish men. Its not PC, but its self preservation.
Hoboken was struck pretty hard with the hurricane so theres that. But aside from nowhere to park ever, it has nice shops and its so pet friendly and walkable. Nice in summertime. Lots of diff aged ppl (a lot seem to be 25-35yrs old) out enjoying themselves.
