I know this would be relatively rough, but how bad do you think it would be? M-F commute, some flexibility on hours (could do 9-5 or get to office in philly around 7:30 and leave at 3:30). Car would be an option. It would only be for a one-year job. How rough would it get?

Depends on where you are working in Philly. It is roughly an hour give or take, but that depends on the time of day. 7:30 is a bit early. I live in North Brunswick and have taken Livingston Ave to Rt 1 then get off at the last exit for the Trenton Makes Bridge, then make a left at the second light in PA to get back onto Rt 1 south (to avoid the tolls). The biggest problem is the fact that Rt 1 narrows to 2 lanes each way in South Brunswick, then widens back up after. If you have to get there at 7:30 I'd leave at 6am which is a bit early. Is moving closer to Philly an option?

I would be working at around 6th and Market St in Philly - so right off 95. I would actually prefer to get to work at around 9 a.m., but have the option of getting there earlier and leaving earlier if that would help beat some of the traffic. Living closer to philly is an option, but for personal reasons I would like to be in New Brunswick so I'm trying to get a sense of how realistic that daily commute would be.

That's going to be rough, even if you manage to beat the traffic one way, the other trip has to be contended with. It would be 1.5 hrs one way. I'd suggest train if it were not slower. Move closer to work.
