MY kids orthodontist up and left his practice...what do you do. I'm in the process of filing a complaint but other than that do I have any recourse. I have a child in braces that should have had them off. Being he did such a crumby job they are still on and I'm paying at another office for a service that was paid for. Other child had pallet expander that wasnt fitted correctly and now once again paying for service at new office. Comments, advice welcome, thanks!

Did you pay him for services that he did not perform?

unless that is the case I think you are probably out of luck. I dont think that there is any "warranty" on dental work. I would start looking for a new dentist

I am so sorry to hear you are having to deal with this mess, I can only imagine how frustrated you are. If any of the services the Orthodontist preformed was covered by insurance, you can go to the insurance company and see if they help with the situation. I know when I was dealing with orthodontic services I had to sign a treatment/services plan that spelled out what the treatment plan was and the costs of services, if you also entered into such a contract you can sue the orthodontist in small claims court. (easy to do pro se, you do not have to hire a lawyer)

I'd also recommend contacting the state licensing board...it may be that he left the practice because his license was lifted. (considering the shoddy work you report)

I am not sure where you are reporting this guy, but you should definitely report him to the State Board of Dentistry (a division of the NJ dept of Consumer affairs) here is their website: New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs Frequently Asked Questions
