well, *clearly* he is going to say something like "canada cares and invests more in education, which reduces poverty and therefore, crime" so the "demographic" is a better educated population.....RIGHT?
AC casinos have become a target rich environment for criminals. Its their main feeding area. Makes sense that more crime occurs with the presence of more victims.
With the unofficial start of the summer tourist season just a couple of days away, Atlantic City tourism officials are getting the news they didn’t want to hear.
A 7-block stretch of beach will be closed for at least another month, as Department of Environmental Protection officials scramble to complete a rock wall jetty project out in the ocean.
DEP spokesman Larry Hajna says over the past couple of months, there’s been a lot of rough weather along the coast – and that delayed the Army Corps of Engineers from completing a sand replenishment project in AC, so work to reinforce the rock jetties, that help to prevent erosion, was delayed.
“We’re looking at completing our phase of the project June 28th. It’s an off-shore breakwater to add additional protection in that area. So one project had to precede the other and that’s why there’s been a delay.'
Yep that's what I meant. The hapless victims, out of their own territory, drop their guard as they never could imagine a heralded historic destination promoted by every tourism organization would be unsafe.
As in the wild world there is a cascade or chain of predator prey relationships. the casinos attract people with money who then wander around to see the ocean and get mugged or killed.
If NJ tourism is serious about NJ, AC should be made to be the safest palce on earth. Otherwise one might think the state splits the riches taken from the tourists by the thugs.
Sortsighted but business as usual in NJ.
Just justify the crime as they do for Newark. It doesn't go away but in the best vein of the old sage, 'you can fool some of the people some of the time but not all of the people all of the time" works quite well for the 'false supporters' of NJ's crime ridden centers of excellence.
Canada is the same as the US , the only difference between US and the Canucks is they talk out there issues and work on fixing a problem whether it be crime or poverty... In this country we sweep everything under the rug. Canadians also have great schools and that leads to lower poverty rates , the property taxes aren't to high either. My Friend only pays 800$ a year , although he lives in a city. But so does most of the country....
Monday's killings took place in the heart of Atlantic City's new tourist district, a state-designated jurisdiction encompassing the casinos, boardwalk and shopping districts. The district is the centerpiece of Gov. Chris Christie's efforts to make the nation's third-largest gambling market clean and safe, and thereby more attracting to tourists.
Also:
Atlantic City, which has long been a magnet for the homeless, some of whom are bused there by welfare agencies from other counties and cities.

If Christie and the mayor of Atlantic City want to make AC safer for tourists, they are going to have to halt this practice of letting welfare agencies drop off these people.
Now in this particular case, the killer's mother took her out of a shelter in Ohio and brought her back to Philly.
Why are these people allowed to roam around without meds? Didn't they use to lock these people up in psychiatric institutions?

You must be young or you would remember all the cuts during the Reagan tears that stopped paying for the hospitalization of the mentally ill. The story was that as long as they took their medication, they'd be just fine. Of course, once there was no one supervising to ensure that they did take their meds, they lapsed back into their world of not being able to distinguish between reality and what's in their heads. We who worked in NYC immediately noticed a huge rise in the mentally ill homeless, and it has not changed much since.
Everybody wants them locked up, but of course somebody else should pay for their care. Not with our taxes. So who should that be?
