This is the first time I will be traveling to Hershey Park from my new location in Lakewood and I have 3 options (according to Google). I am not familiar with any of these highways (used to take the TPKE to 78) and would appreciate any advice on the best route to take. I will be leaving around 6:30 - 7:00am. I am familiar with 195 but never at rush hour so I don't know which way the traffic is worse

#1 Rte 9 to 195W to 276W to 76W

#2 Rte 9 to 195 W to 276W to 202S to 30W to 283W

#3 is taking the NJTPKE to 276 W to 76W (but the TPKE is out of the way - not sure about this one unless I need to avoid 195)

I am considering taking the GSP to 195 - even though it adds about 10 miles - rte 9 is a nightmare and takes FOREVER with all the lights and construction.

If anyone has any experience with these highways during morning rush hour I would appreciate any feedback!

lakewood -parkway North to 287, to 78, to 81/hershey

forget roads like rt 30, 9, 202. best is to use major roads though it appears longer via map it is shorter in time.

6:30 from lakewood to 287 via the prkway will ensure you catch 287 heavy traffic. Leave earlier and once you hit 78 W you should be ok

I was thinking along similar lines since I wasn't sure if those roads were "real" highways or not. Wouldn't it be better then to just take the GSP or TPKE to 78 to avoid 287? If I left at 6:30 I would be hitting the 78 exit around 7:15 ish so traffic shouldn't be that bad on the TPKE since I'll get off before the JC exits. Not familiar with GSP traffic in that vicinity. I really don't want to leave much earlier since I won't be getting home from work until around 9pm Wed. after a 12 hour + day and I'll be exhausted if I have to get up even earlier.

Edit: Just checked directions and going GSP to 78 adds 52 miles to the trip. Going 287 adds 40 miles. Is it really worth it? I was on 76 once when I went down to Kings Dominion but got on much farther down (went 78 to 81 to 76) than I'm going. I vaguely remember it was part "real" highway and had parts with traffic lights. Anyone know how it is across the NJ border to Hershey?

78 to 81 to 76 is way out of your way. Take NJ TPKE south to Exit 6, go west and hit PA TPKE at the border. Going west, Hershey is a straight shot from there. On a Thursday traffic should not be bad at all.

No question - 195 West to the NJ Turnpike South (around 10 miles) to 276 West (PA Turnpike). You may hit some traffic around Plymouth Meeting or King of Prussia, but it's nothing compared to what you'd find on 287, so there's no reason to go out of your way to use 287.

Also no reason to take Route 30 unless they've shut down the PA Turnpike or something.

Agree with Lucario, mcf17, and HalfFull. No reason to waste time/miles going to 78 or 287. 195-NJTpk-PATpk is the way to go.

Less tolls going across I-78, not a bad choice, I came back from Hershey that way a few months ago.

Google has me going 195 to 29 N to rte 1 S (says West City Ave S but on the map it says route 1) to the penn tpke. Should I just get on the NJTPKE S and go that way or the way Google has it? I'm thinking the TPKE but that merge by exit 8 is a KILLER! (then again, those other strange directions might be worse!)

* edit - I forgot - I'll be getting on past that! I'm SO used to living up north! I'll just take the Tpke!

Going that way (195 to 29 to US1) works well as US 1 from there is a freeway, no lights. There is one toll going over the bridge from NJ to PA which can be driven around by using the "Trenton Makes" Alt US 1 a block away.

Either way should be trouble free and you pickup the pennsy Pike around Neshaminy Mall area directly from the US 1 Freeway.
