I'm moving back home to Jersey with my boyfriend in about a month or so. I'm originally from the southern part of the state (Burlington County), and I was mostly raised in the Philly suburbs of Pennsy, so I'm not too familiar with North Jersey at all. However, my boyfriend and I would like to live North to be closer to NYC. We'd love to live in NYC, of course, but we simply can't afford it at this time, and I also want to stay as close as I can to my family, who live South.

We were wondering which towns would be ideal for us; our criteria isn't too stringent, preferably they would have all the places and shops we love there or nearby, which include: nice parks with hiking trails, movie theaters (preferably ones that show indie flicks), comic book shops, video game stores and arcades, malls, Asian groceries, nice scenic areas (we're filmmakers, so this is important), photo/video stores, and other shops. It'd also be ideal if there were affordable rental properties/apartments, and a sizeable population of young adults/twentysomethings like us.

Does anything ring a bell for that area? I'd love to check out anything you can recommend. Thanks in advance.

If you've lived in Philly, then you'd feel right at home in Paterson, NJ.

I left burlington county when I was 21 and landed in newark because it was the only reasonably priced city to rent, the neighborhood I first rented wasn't that bad, it was on 1st avenue off bloomfield avenue and was walkable though I had a car. There is hiking in south mountain reservation, liberty state park is good for biking or walking, there is walking around verona lake in verona, hiking at round valley lake is good though the bastards gated the entrance off we just go around it, hiking at cheesequake state forest is good, walking on the shore north of lawrence harbor is fun, the palisades trail along the hudson river is good, etc etc if you want to know anything specific u can PM me because i dont follow this forum much. Asian stores are found around north plainfield, jersey city, fort lee. I like north newark though preferably near belleville/bloomfield border because u can find landlords that rent month to month with reasonable rent. I'm 25 now and just moved back to burlington to save money where theres no traffic and parking is never an issue. Hope u guys have fun and return soon.
