Hello,

For the past month or two my fiance and I have been looking for a studio/1 bedroom apartment nearish Rutgers New Brunswick (20-30 minute drive max). We're both students (I'm a graduate student) and both attend and work very close to Rutgers.

As I have found out New Brunswick rent rates are insanely high. We have a budget of about 800 a month because we're saving for future expenses like the wedding and the trip we'll be taking to a bunch of countries post-graduation/wedding.

Right now I commute in from Newark everday (50 minute commute, to avoid tolls) and she drives in from about 40 minutes south of New Brunswick. So we'd like to meet nearish our middle.

Any thoughts? Most places on Craigslist that are in our price range seem to request single tenant only.

If you're willing to accept an area with a bad reputation, you can probably find places in Plainfield that you can afford and that are pretty nice. Since you're coming from Newark, you should be able to handle Plainfield.

There are several apartment complexes in Edison/Highland Park just off Rt. 1. Might look into them.
Also there is a complex on the north bound side of 1 just south of the bridge. They are(look) well maintained.
