No one ENJOYS taxes...that's just foolish to think so. But sometimes you get what you pay for, and I don't mean proximity to NYC. If you don't need it, then live elsewhere... but there are other things. I work in HR for a multi-state company and trust me, I have people crying on the phone at least 3 times per week when they realize they are ill and now they don't get paid becuase their state (PA among them) does not have short term disability.
so tell me, when and where does one cease to "enjoy" paying high taxes? is it any state lower in tax burden than NJ? who judges what's high?

That's so true... I have a realtive who is constatnly telling me to move upstate by them... but I'd have to take about a $20-35k year cut in pay... IF I could find work in my industry. So yeah, my mortgage and taxes would be less, but I'd be in the same predicament. LOL

Relative my ***! My buddy just transferred to NC with one of the big pharma firms, got a salary boost to boot, and an affordable McMansion w/low taxes. He lives like a king now with a better quality of life to raise his family.
Well, transfering with a big increase is the way to go. I know people who did that in GA and FL too, but if you go w/o a job and take "local" rates... it's a different story.

That has happened in a lot of areas where there is rapid growth, that is why NEPA taxes go up too... the more people come in, the more infrastructure is needed.

Exactly! Too many people up and sell their NJ mcmansions..use the cash equity to buy a place down south with every cent figuring "how hard can it be to find a job?".... 6 months..12 months later...no job! Now all their money is tied up in their house... and the taxes, as teeny as they may seem, are due and they have no money! So they try to sell their new house in this current market...6 months later..12 months later...hummm, why isn't my house selling? Now it's time to walk away! Foreclosure. It's the story of the year!

i've said this before, but my brother had a chance to relocate down to NC for his job with his NYC salary. He didn't go, but knew lots who did. Guess what happened? HUGE cuts RIGHT after these people relocated. They uprooted their lives, sold houses, and it was ripped out right from under them. And this was before the economy went to pot. A lot of times it IS happily ever after, but sometimes low cost housing and taxes just ain't enough if the income stream is $0.
