We are looking to live in commuting distance to Morristown and Berkeley Heights. We would like to have a close to move-in ready 5BR home in a top school district below $1.2M. Any suggestions? Chatham looks great, but might be out of our price range. We are considering Basking Ridge. Any other towns to consider? Factors to consider?

Thanks in advance.

This + Summit and Berkeley Heights. Your money will go farther in NP and BH.

Thanks everyone. Any factors to consider? Which towns are kid friendly? Which towns are snobby? We're dual income professionals and not very showy. Which towns provide solid education without too much 'keeping up with the Jones' attitude?

I think all the ones suggested are good.

All the towns mentioned are solid in term of education and mostly the people that live there are down to earth and friendly. "Not very showy" with a $1.2 million budget?

I'd try New Providence first. Good schools, nice town pool, has a town center (shopping area anyway), train station, and close to Summit. It seems like a friendly town, and the HS is smallish too (esp as compared to Ridge). I think it is slightly less expensive than Madison/Chatham but taxes may be more.

I would suggest you look at Morris Township. It shares a school district with Morristown. For the same value taxes will be better than Morristown and much better than Union County towns (New Providence / Berkley Heights).
