We are looking to move from the Sloatsburg area to Suffern, NY, Mahwah or the surrounding towns near Mahwah. We are looking for great schools and decent taxes. Our budget is low for the area, about $500,000. We have pre-school aged children and looking for our forever home.
We've heard Ramapo Central (Suffern) schools are good, but I'm curious about Mahwah and the surrounding area. Any recommendations?
I know Mahwah taxes used to be lower compared to surrounding areas, is that still the case? We've looked at one house, on Campgaw Road, and the taxes seemed reasonable - $9500 for 1 acre of property and a 2300 square foot home.

Thanks everyone!
So is your budget $550K(campgaw property)? or $500K? $50K makes a big difference in that area since for $550-$600 you are going to start seeing things bigger than a cape(which I would could never classify as a forever home with more than one kid)
Mahwah is a nice area, rural but very nice. Schools are excellent(equal to or better than most schools serving Suffern, especially if your kids get sent to ramapo high in spring valley) and taxes are low.
