So I've been on the apartment hunt for a while now (nearly a year in fact). I'm in my mid 20's so I was trying to find an area with a lot going on, so most of my efforts have been focused on Morristown. However, I've had no luck finding roommates, and I must say even with roommates most of the apartments I've seen within my budget have been pretty run down. I'm fed up with trying to find roommates, so now I'm focusing on somewhere else that I can afford my own one bedroom or studio. I've been considering Hackettstown or Stanhope area. I know they are even more suburban than Morristown, but coming from PA I'm used to being in the boonies. So any recommendation on either town? I'm working in Newton and my budget really should stay below $800 a month everything included. Is my budget still too low for a studio in these areas? Any particular complex recommendations (or warnings)? Thanks in advance for any help!

I love Hackettstown...grew up in the area. You should be able to get a studio around 800. I would avoid Towpath...I've heard they're not the greatest in terms of the people...they're also the furtherest out from town. Peachtree Village seems very nice...right by the relatively new Target.
The ones in Mansfield right up the road from the movie theater are decent too..I believe it's Mansfield Village.

The commute to Newton shouldn't be too bad there, have you looked within Newton itself? I don't know Newton too well, but I know there are several complexes there and I think you could find in your price range there.

Thanks I know Newton itself is somewhat affordable but I just don't like the area. No offense to anyone from there, it just seems kind of rundown to me. Is Hackettstown similar? I guess I need to go take a look...

I wouldn't say Hackettstown is rundown, but there is an increased Hispanic influence in town if that matters to you. Lots of little Spanish stores and bakeries, but there are still plenty of English ones as well.

I was in your position 25 years ago and choose H-town out of affordablity. Glad i did. I lived in Alexandria, which is techinacaly Mansfield township. Really grew to like the area. It will much easier/shorter commute to newton.

There's no Barnes and nobles and nj transit trains don't run as frequently for some reason. Its stopping the area from exploding. You should save your money and buy a house in hacketstown
