Curious if there's any good beer out there in NJ. I would say flying fish is the best, but I haven't tried MOST of the other NJ brewers.

Flying Fish has some excellent beers. Their Exit 4 Trippel is way too deliciously drinkable for a 10.2% ABV beer.

I'm also a huge fan of most of River Horse's offerings. Their Belgian Freeze in the winter keeps ya nice and warm.

Cricket Hill's IPA is another tasty one.

Flying Fish is very good. I think River Horse is my favorite local brewery though. I also enjoy Triumph in Princeton and Harvest Moon in New Brunswick.

Unfortunately I don't see a lot of local beer available in liquor stores or restaurants even though I know there are others. The New Jersey craft beer industry has been curtailed somewhat by outdated laws that limit breweries/brew pubs abilities to sell their beer. There is some legislation that has yet to be signed by the governor that will update the craft beer laws so New Jersey will be more in line with New York, Pennsylvania, and Delaware. Hopefully Christie will sign it soon. He has been good to the beer and wine industries so far.

Edit: Now that I have written this I realize most people interested in New Jersey craft beer probably already know this so I apologize if I am telling you something you already know. That being said, for anyone not familiar with the craft beer scene you should know that we have some well respected breweries right here in our state and you might enjoy delving into what New Jersey has to offer in terms of craft beer.

I had that for the first time this weekend. Really enjoyed it.

Ramstien Blonde is a good wheat beer. Not something I get all the time, but i do enjoy it on occasion.

i was surprised to find Exit 4 in a 6 pack, usually that sort of thing comes in a bomber or 750ml. i thought it was decent too. anyone ever tried exit 1 - stout brewed with oysters. thought this sounded a bit out there but its not too expensive .

To keep on this topic, what are everyone's favorite craft beer bars here?

My pick would have to go to Andy's Corner Bar, and not just for proximity. George the owner is one of the friendliest fellas you'll ever meet and the bar is full of locals from all walks. It really is your comfortable neighborhood bar, that just also happens to have an excellent beer selection. Always love when there's something pouring on cask as well.

+1 for andy's. great beer selection, clean taps, friendly people and no meatheads (unlike the jersey city beergarden).
