New Jersey's unemployment rate rose in July for the fourth month in a row to 9.8 percent, a record high since 1977, according to data released by the state Department of Labor on Thursday.

Christie's about as good a job creator as the moron governor we have here in WI.

Not sure what to make about the new numbers but I do suspect they will get worse due to the jobs lost in the seasonal job market that will go away shortly.
I also dont understand how anybody ever thought Christie's "Jersey Comeback" was anything more then hogwash.

The unemployment rate in NYC is 10% and in nj it is 9.8% but those in white collar professions are still doing very very well in this region. Then reported ue rate doesnt mean much since the majority of adults are working - and judging by crowds in the stores, restaurants and bars that are packed any night of the week and traffic in the region certainly not lighter along with rents in north and central jersey being at record highs you would think the economy was booming. As that guy who writes a blog on seekingalpha.com says that unemployment will remain high, gas and food prices will continue to rise but the consumer is continuing to spend (try finding parking at garden state plaza on any weekend unless there is a blizzard) and the stock market is going to record highs

I saw that coming a years ago but what do you expect, he was going against the arguably even more corrupt Jon Corzine. So he kind of won by default. With Christie officially becoming the keynote speaker for the RNC, it is clearly evident that he has his eyes set for Washington DC for the 2016 presidential election. His focus on solving New Jersey issues will increasingly take a back seat in the near future as he will try and prepare for a presidential run.

A whole bunch of people will lose their unemployment in the next month when the extension by the feds expires. Then the rate will drop. Will that make you feel better?

Yes the majority of adults are working but they've also been paying down debt (worried about the future) and holding on to their money. A "good" unemployment rate would be 4 or 5%. Some states in the midwest have that and states like PA & DE are MUCH better than us in job creation. Whatever Gov. Creosote is doing is not working obviously.

Stock market gains aren't a true reflection of the health of the economy since investors are happy that corporations are producing as much as they did before with a lot less staff. That trend can't last forever either.

Christie was elected to find a solution to the out of control property tax problem and to attract employers to the state. He has done neither. Property taxes continue to go up and our UE rate is the highest since the 70's. I can't stand seeing them lying commercials on how good he's doing. "New Jerseys Comeback". When i see it on TV I switch the channel. Keep touring the country while us peons bleed to death.

I'm not a huge fan of Christie, though I did vote for him over Corzine....I think it's unfair to say he's done nothing about controlling property taxes. I think he's done a little bit, not nearly as impressive as he promised, but I think it's him hitting the reality that we live in a state with a bunch of people who complain about the property taxes they pay, but then scream if you cut anything. Hoboken went bat$hit crazy when Mayor Zimmer tried to reduce the largest per capita police force in the country (i think that's still true - was when I lived there). Even my town dropping something like 8 cops was cause for backlash.

I'm with you on attracting employers to the state. I guess you can say he tried with Revel - but they are failing miserably. What's up with that Meadowlands Mall? anything?

In all fairness, I think he has a tough job, as will the next guy. But his combative attitude has hindered his ability to make real progress. If he came in with his political philosophy, and worked with people instead of being an in-your-face-arse (which many people like about him), I think he could have accomplished more.

I'm hoping our next options are better.

It burns me up when I see christie's commercials lying to the world that he has helped NJ. This lying sack of crap has done nothing for the state, and in fact has made it worst. He has clearly failed as governor and it's laughable that he is the keynote speaker, just shows that the state of politics in this country is a complete mess. Christie is the best they can get? Sickening really.
