Hi, I am a single mom that works in NYC with a 7 year old child. I am currently renting in East Rutherford and would like to purchase a home/condo. I have been looking in Montclair and wanting to stay at around 250k. It seems that I would have to be in the south end of Montclair around Orange Rd, Harrison, Rosedale, Cedar Ave. This area not specifically these streets. My questions are as follows:
1. Some people say that this area is a bit sketchy. Is there a lot of crime? Would I not be safe? Can anyone be specific? I drove around on Sunday and overall the area was ok. Not like upper Montclair of course but it was ok
2. I know that Montclair uses the "magnet system". Overall is the school system good?
3. Any other area that has good schools, diversity and easy commute to NYC.
