Not sure whether I should post here or the education forum...

Does anyone know how to find out whether a teacher is highly qualified for middle school?
Are teachers required to fill out a "Highly Qualified Teacher Identification form" and submit supporting document? Are teachers required to do this every year?

I don't know exactly how certification works in New Jersey but under NCLB a teacher is considered "Highly Qualified" if s/he holds a certificate in the subject area (or areas) being taught.

My MD certificate is the Advanced Professional which means that I have successfully taught for 10 years and have a Master's or equivalent. I also am considered a Senior Teacher due to years of service and additional course work.

As to how to find out, schools are required to publish the number of staff holding the various certificate levels. To find out a particular individual's level I don't know how.

If you are trying to find out in order to use it for some classroom issue I would advise caution. Doing so will challenge the Principal's judgement in staffing his building and you will get a response you may not like.
