There is a neighbor the next street over who runs an autobody business out of his home. There are always lots of cars around, garage doors are always open with cars up on racks being worked on, etc. We can hear cars being revved and idling. There is some weird driveway on the side that is tarped where he parks cars. There is a million dollar house across the street and another next door.

Our neighborhood is changing, with older homes (this car falls in that category) being knocked down for $900,000+ new ones. We live in a newer home and would be livid to have this guy as an immediate neighbor. How is this legal?

Do they have a separate entrance/garage and attached building to their home for this? You can report them if not. They also need all the required business permits, licensing, etc ....

Mindful, if you start with them, I'm sure it won't sit well ... and why create enemies with neighbors ??

It is just a two story house with nonstop car repair work being done and never ending cars in and out. If our house was next door/across the street, we would have never gotten out of the car to look at it!

Just because you have a million dollar house doesn't mean you get to dictate your neighbor's lifestyle. If you wanted that sort of nonsense you should have moved into an HOA-controlled area.

Because residential neighborhoods are not the place for industrially zoned businesses. I have a toddler and am pregnant. Why should we and other neighbors be exposed to chemicals, cars idling, etc.?

My father owned an autobody collision company his entire life. He ended up with bladder cancer that was directly linked to his business. Autobody businesses are zoned industrial for a reason.

If you report him, I hope he doesn't know/find out it's you ... My friend owns a construction company and when he first moved to his big house he kept his trucks in the driveway. A neighbor reported him and he was told by the town to move them to his office, which he didn't have. lol! He now rents space for his trucks.

Why should I have to be exposed to your toddler? Like I said, if you wanted to control other people's lives, you should have moved to an HOA area. This guy has probably been doing what he's been doing before anyone put up any million dollar homes, now you want to shut him down so someone can pick his place up at foreclosure and build another million-dollar home?

Wow...the idiocy on this board is overwhelming.

Autobody businesses do not belong in residential neighborhoods. If you lived next to this guy, you'd be pissed.

How long has he been doing it? If the business has been there for a long time, it's probably grandfathered in, even if the area/zoning has changed.

I'd just go call the town or whatever up and see if it's registered/legal.

If it is, too bad for you, it was obvious that it was going on when you bought the house, not your right to change what's been there longer than you.
