I am considering renting an apartment in Long Branch, NJ. Any particular area better than others?

The area inexplicably named "West End", which is the south end of Long Branch, is the best area in which to live. Other areas are OK, but some parts on the northern end of the city have drug/crime problems. You can see where stores are closed and boarded up, buildings are not maintained, etc.

People seem to like the Glen Ellen apartment complexes on Cedar Avenue in West End.

If I were going to rent in Long Branch again (I lived there for nine months and loved it -- rented in a two-family house on Norwood Avenue, just FYI), I would live at the Sea Verge.

Amenities | Sea Verge

Might be a little pricier because the ocean is across the street, but it's not as expensive as some of the newer condos in the same area.

There are a number of apartment complexes in Long Branch, though, and none of them are that far from the ocean!

Depending on what happens with NJ racing, I was thinking of renting a place near Monmouth Park racetrack this coming spring/summer. I've driven around quite a bit, and it seems like a nice area. Especially down by the water -- restaurants, shopping, people, etc. I saw a ton of apartment buildings, high-rises, townhouses, two families, etc. Seems very nice.

I don't know the area well, but in spending a lot of time there, it seems like there are some newer developments. If the "ocean" is not the primary motivation, I am sure there is not as big a premium attached. I don't need ocean front, or even ocean view. Don't get me wrong, water is nice, LOL. I'd like to be close to the track -- 10 or 15 minutes.

What's the market like? Any idea as to what the rent is at Sea Verge? Thank you in advance.

As a side note, the Glen Ellen complex (along with three others) was part of a portfolio that was for sale about 4 years ago or so.

Yes, the areas along the waterfront in Long Branch that were not in such great shape ten years ago have been revitalized. You have Pier Village, which has apartments, restaurants and shops (another site to check for apartments.)

I posted the link on Sea Verge above. I think the rents were listed on that site.

Just as a measurement, when I lived in Long Branch in 2009 - 2010, I paid 1400 for a two-bedroom apartment in a two-family house in West End on Norwood Avenue, about a mile inland from the ocean. It was probably less than a ten-minute drive to Monmouth Park.

Pier Village is very nice -- and there seems to be a lot going on there. I didn't see the rents on the Sea Verge website. I'll check again. Thanks.

I thought the rents would be in that neighborhood, but I wasn't sure what a "higher end" place might be -- like Pier Village, Sea Verge, or something with parking, amenities, pool, and so on.

Thank you again.
