Irene was bad for many, but it was nowhere near as bad as they were predicting initially. The initial reports were that it would be some sort of catastrophe. It was a bad storm but certainly not at that level.
Ask the folks in Wayne, Pecquanack, etc if it was a catastrophe.
My roommates girlfriends parents were still displaced 6 months after Irene.
Being prepared is not waiting until the next storm is bearing down on you before deciding to buy a generator. There are storms and blackouts at some point most years.
Buying a generator is some of the best money I've ever spent. Just be sure you stock up on gasoline before a big storm, if gas stations don't have power you can't get gas. And if only some gas stations don't have power, that ones that do have power will sell out of gas quickly.

Also, be sure to run it periodically and check/change the oil. Its not good money spent if it won't work when you need it!
Because you had no damage, people who did simply didn't prepare. Are you always this clueless?
your post is totally inappropriate. how do you pick the words you want to see and ignore the words you dont want to see and not figure you are being totally ridiculous? i said "many" of the people with damage didnt prepare. i didnt say everyone who had damage didnt prepare.
funny, his comment will be right probably 90% of the time but there will always be people who will always respond when he says it "famous last words." you will be right 10% of the time, he will be right 90%. but for some reason people in the 10% feel like they are the smart ones.

Nah, I just think the 'smart ones' prepare for the 10% scenario. Some may feel smart by not being prepared and the storm misses them... but I call them something else: the "lucky ones".

its funny how everyone makes this an issue about being prepared. yeah, thats why women will bring up the storm to every single person they talk to over and over and over again. its about being prepared. sure.
