I've heard the typical New Yorker jokes about Jersey and I blew it off. This news story just lowered my opinion of Jersey. Seems Jersey will only accept electrical help from union workers only. Any workers that show up and aren't union are told to go home. WAFF NEWS
How mature and fair of you to let a report from a single Alabama radio station (and you linked the mobile site...) on the actions of few judge and set the tone of the merit of millions.
Well Sailordave, I'm sure your opinion wasn't high to begin with so no loss there. Secondly, I award you the silver medal for "worst timing of a post" Internet award.
And lastly, I'll take your claim much more seriously if I could find ANY source other than what I'm sure is the esteemed news organization WAFF. Every article I found points back to this one source. Sorry, something smelly fishy.
But thanks for dropping by with your overwhelming concern for the people here.
And gotta love FB, I just reached out to a friend whose husband is in Egg Harbor bringing power back on. He's from KCP&L. He's NOT union. As my kids would say... "get wrecked".
My buddy is a union lineman in NJ (he's in Atlantic County right now) and I have talked to him a couple of times about what was going on. He's working side-by-side with non-union crews from other states. The only reason I know that is because his guys are razzing the non-union guys about being non-union and vice versa.
As others pointed out this is one "news" article that is getting picked up and replicated on other sites, none of which are anything close to a reliable news source. My guess...
These guys headed up here thinking they were going to Seaside Heights. By the time they got here from Alabama they were no longer needed here, so they got re-assigned to New York where they were needed. Some JCPL union guy busted their chops for being non-union and now all of a sudden Billy Boy is telling Bubba that "them folks in Jersey don't like non-union workers and won't let us help."
Jersey Central Power & Light spokesman Ron Morano said in an interview with News 12 New Jersey that JCP&L has welcomed all out-of-state crews.
"We have not turned away any help," he said. "Absolutely not."
WAFF revised its report to say that crews from Decatur Utilities and Joe Wheeler in Trinity were told to stand down. Those crews went to Long Island, N.Y. to work instead.
Not following you there on who the few and the millions are but I find that story hard to believe.
We're way too smart to allow that bulls*t in NJ given current circumstances.
The few referred to the supposed people turning away non-union aid, the millions are NJ residents. Shoulda been a bit more clear there!
Either way I don't buy this for a second, and this is the only publication originally reporting and being cited as a source.
Where's the clown filter on these boards?
