In the long run you'll love the rebuilding / insurance money that's about to flow into your state. It will put a whole lot of people to work and business will be very good.

And Obama will take full credit.

Good for him. There's not much else for him to take credit for.

The areas that were affected by Katrina were inhabited by more affluent people and their property was worth more. Plus you are talking New York verses New Orleans.

He has a lot to take Credit for. He's the one who got Bin Laden. Bush didn't have the nuts.

There's no point in comparing these two people. Bush, Obama, and Osama have all hurt this country.

That's because a lot of the ignorant jackasses didn't get out of the city...sat around waiting for local and federal Govt to act for them.

At least with Sandy, they may have learned a lesson from Katrina, and the majority beat it out of town.

Katrina had more deaths than Sandy. Katrina had 1,833 confirmed deaths. Hurricane Sandy currently has 182 confirmed deaths, 110 of them in the USA. It is the second costliest hurricane in history, with over $50 billion in damage. Only Katrina was more costly, with $108 billion. In terms of cost and death, Katrina was worse.

I think this was the difference. Most people in the USA don't expect the Greater New York area to get hit by a hurricane. I think Sandy had more shock value because of how close it was to New York City.

Another thing is this. Hurricane Katrina happened 7 years ago, under a different President. Because Katrina was so far in the past, and a different region was hit, few people remember Katrina, other than those affected by Katrina. New York City is where Wall Street is. There are major media markets here, such as ABC and CBS. New York City is a major economic engine in the USA, and one I believe that where many people in other parts of the USA don't expect a natural disaster to happen, so it has shocked people in other parts of the USA.

Everyone expects the Gulf Coast to get hit with Hurricanes. However, what shocked people back in 2005 was what the hurricane revealed in terms of corruption on so many levels of government. Because Katrina is so far in the past, and Hurricane Sandy has happened NOW, people are focusing on Hurricane Sandy.

Not only that, but how late Hurricane Sandy hit. Most people aren't thinking about hurricanes around the time of Halloween, let alone one that is going to hit land, and so close to New York. Also, people all over the eastern seaboard were affected, from Florida to Maine, and even into places like Montreal.

However, I will say this. As bad as things are, I think the NYC metropolitan area is going to be very resilient and recover from this disaster.

The same is true of AC during Sandy. Had the storm traveled a slightly different path, we'd have significant deaths over there.

Cat 1 storm versus a cat 4 storm. I think the cat 4 was worse.

The Mississippi coast took the full force of Katrina, not New Orleans. Biloxi and Gulfport were nearly completely wiped off of the map, but you didn't hear that on the news.

And Galveston a few years later. The people got off their azz, went to work and rebuilt.

It's the difference in the working class and the welfare class.
