I think from your description we must live on totally different planets...lol
3% raises each year would still be about 13% more today than 4 years ago. i know some companies that froze salaries in 2008, i know some that eliminated 401k matches. But the companies who are better managed took care of their people during the downturn and emerged stronger than their competitors. You see...there's a benefit to not becoming a highly leveraged company when times are good. Short term gains typically take over long term views at companies that don't weather storms very well.

You know that the unemployment rate for college grads has dropped down to 3.8%? Imagine what it would be if people stopped telling sally she can be anything she wants, and more students went into the fields that are sorely needed right now (actuaries, accountants, nurses, computer programming, electrical engineering, chemical engineering, etc.)?

There's a reason why when I was in business school I didn't choose finance as a major, despite knowing what people could potentially make coming out of college - everyone around me was choosing it. The writing was on the wall. So i chose a business technology major with a focus in accounting instead.

my wife works in an industry that is tough right now, especially in NJ, yet she's managed to succeed as well.

Maybe something is going on in NJ in the past couple of years unrelated to the strides we've made nationally? I dunno - a certain Governor who happily hands out money to a mall in secaucus and a casino that can't make a modest revenue to cover it's bond payments, instead of to a tunnel project that would have created more jobs, raised people's property values, reduced commute times, and opened up more efficient travel in the northeast corridor? Not that he's not done good things, but I'm grossly disappointed in him (though, i'd definitely NOT prefer Corzine).

but let's both face the fact that neither the President nor the Governor truly "create" jobs.

Nothing changes. Depending on the letter in front of your name is the difference to many people as to the quality of the job they have done.

i seriously suspect that if a Republican was in office the past 4 years, we'd be hearing quite a bit about all the successes...even if exactly the same thing was done. We'd probably hear many Democrats complaining it's not good enough also...but the level of misinformation out there - i'm not convinced would be the same.

could you imagine if Obama had been a Rep? How many times would they tell you that the Dow Jones has nearly doubled since he had taken office? How about the unemployment rate and how is was going down. Or how he "killed" Bin Laden? Or how he had created 1k millionaires every day for 4 years? Its comical to say the least.

admittedly bababua, both sides are guilty of this. but yeah...all very true. and for the record...Obama is basically a Republican. Turn back the clock about 20-30 years, and he has more in common with Republicans than they like to admit. It's why his supporter base kept polling as not very enthusiastic about supporting him in 2012. It sure as hell wasn't because he was "too liberal".

Also - it's a falsehood that they are claiming Romney wasn't conservative enough. The problem was he wasn't anything enough. If he just took positions, even as a moderate..i really believe he had it in the bag. I still think it would be close. But there were plenty of people like me who are generally moderate and could have been convinced.

And now just imagine what the Dems would have said.

Asking for both revenue AND spending is compromising. Yet, Republicans won't have it. (well, now they seem to be considering it). Cutting future defense spending increases (rather than actually reducing defense spending from current spending) is a compromise. Yet the campaign against him wants to increase beyond what was already planned.

Politics is all about compromise. No one ever gets everything they want. The balance of power in the different branches should be a good thing - yet lately, there's been a complete lack of effort in both parties within Congress to get things done. That's why many of the incumbants should have been shown the door, but sadly, weren't.
Lol you think him asking for something in front of reporters is comprimising? You are a useful idiot for Obama. It is easy to have a "meeting" with Republicans and then not want to give up anything and come out of the meeting and tell reporters, hey I wanted to comprimise, I met with them, but they didn't want to give in to all my demands.

The last time that I know of that Republicans allowed both revenue and spending as "comprimise" was under Reagan, and guess what happened. There was no comprimise on spending, there was a tax increase. Cutting future defense increases is not a comprimise, it is a part of the Democrat platform. If he cut welfare, social security, Medicare and everything else along with defense that would've been comprimise.

You are a useful idiot for the Democrats. Study politics on both sides. This is exactly how people like Obama get 2 terms.

George W. Bush: Bad president. Big spender. Incompetent.
Barack H. Obama: Bad president. Big spender. Socialist philosophy -- "spread the wealth"

There....I just summed up the last 12 years of our "leaders".

I am getting a bumper sticker that says...."End Of Amateur Hour -- Christie For President"

Your post made me think of something I heard yesterday. That republicans weren't really thrilled with Romney and so instead of voting him in and then have to back him again in 4 years they would rather have a fresh start in 4 years with someone better. Interesting.
