As a Maryland alum, I'm kinda ehh about moving to the Big Ten. I understand that it's for the best, but I'll miss the old matchups and rivalries. For Rutgers on the other hand, this is a no-brainer and a great move. Between this, the bond issue passing, the Rutgers boards signing off on the UMDNJ merger today, and this move to the Big Ten, it's a great day for the university and for the state.

By joining Big Ten, Rutgers did better than any school in college realignment | NJ.com

Thank you, soug! It's been a very BIG week for RU. All the best to RU alumni and friends and fans.

In non-revenue sports, Maryland's going kick some butt. We got nearly 20 national championships in Olympic sports over the past two decades. Our basketball team won 1 national championship a decade ago, and the current head coach has recruited the players get the team back into the sweet 16. Football is also on the rebound. We'll be ready for B1G competition in 2014-15.

I'm just worried the level of talent coming in for Olympic sports just won't be as good anymore since the Big Ten isn't as strong as the ACC in some of them.

I kind of agree. The talent and growth favors the South. I hope we're not giving up long-term benefits for short-term relief.

Swofford has gotten too comfortable in Greensboro. He should've negotiated better TV deals, set up an ACC network, moved the tournament outside of Carolina more frequently, encouraged the organization of an academic research consortium, blown off Notre Dame, and killed off the BE by also inviting RU, UConn, Louisville and Cincinnati.
