Hi,

I and my husband have just moved to New Jersey from India, and are looking for a rental apartment, in a safe and good area in New Jersey. I will be commuting daily to manhattan for work, while my husband's work location is in Clinton township ( he wud be driving to work).

For last few days, we have searched over many apartments in Edison (Oxford Arms, Evergreen Meadows, Margate, Mill Brook), Metropark (Bristol, Brookside) , New brunswick (Skyline Towers, the Colony House), Morristown (Morristown Plaza)...but we are not able to reach to a final conclusion.
We are looking for an apartment, which is in a safe neighborhood and close to train/bus station, 'cause i will be commuting to office by train/bus. We are looking for a 1BR apartment and are comfortable with the rental price upto $1500 per month.

Would really appreciate, if anyone can advice on the area and the apartments that we have searched till now, or if can suggest any other area/apartment.

Thanks in anticipation!!

I'm not sure if this helps, but Edison is one of my favorite places in New Jersey! I find it to be very beautiful and safe. My community college is located in Edison. In fact, I want to move there once I am done with school.

I hope that helps!

I once lived in Evergreen Meadows, many years ago, and I liked it there. I also commuted to Manhattan--some of the time by bus, which I caught at Menlo Park Mall (not sure if that is still where to get a bus) or by train out of Metro Park.

Everything was close by that I needed, and the area was nice. There is a big park nearby, too, if I recall correctly.

Thanks for the inputs....I agree that Edison is a nice and safe place to live, but not able to zero down on any option. Getting contradicting reviews about each. The only problem with Evergreen Meadows is that, they have units available only after Jan 1, 2013 and I am looking for something to move in asap...or by Dec 1, 2012.

Also I got reference for Woodbridge Centre Plaza apartments and Gill Lane apartments, can anyone advice on these two, too?

Please suggest any other options..if i have not yet looked into....

Thanks..

Your commute to manhattan would be quite long from edison area. Maybe you could look at towns closer to NYC and along a bus line..like union city, north bergen, secaucus, rutherford. its not always a good idea for a couple to live 'midway' to both places.
if you do want to stay on the train line..rahway is a good option too.

Edison is too congested and so is New Brunswick. South Plainfield off of 287 is a nightmare and with the holiday traffic coming, just bad. I cant wait to get out of NJ and to FL. NJ has changed and I dont want to be a part of it. Good luck and apts in So. Plainfield are between $1500 and $1700. Good luck.

Evergreen Meadows, Edison NJ

I have been renting for years in New Jersey and I know many apartment complex struggle with cleaning, roaches and bad management issues but this complex has way more than any other I have ever lived, here few:

Roaches
High Rent (5% yearly increase, typical 3%)
Rude Management
Unresponsive maintenance team
Lack of Kids play area
Paper thin walls
Old buildings
Water leaking through windows

Above all, current management attitude toward families with Kids, they enforced adult community (55+) rules in complex. Their super and maintenance teams (some undocumented labour) run all day long in complex and harrasment kids playing in front of their homes, follow by police threading letters from apartment manager. Kids in complex are scared of management/maintenance teams.

Note: I am sure this is not Garden Communities investor/owners policy because I have lived in their other apartment complex in NJ, there they encourage kids activities (specially in summer vacations)

I have shown management threatening correspondence to friend lawyer who suggested to report media, county and state.

There is no way to attach their letter here - if you are interested, search on google images or NJ.com, I have posted online.
