Hi. I was wondering if anyone had any feedback or knew anything about washers. I am trying to decide if I should get a new washing machine. I recently bought a house that has a Kenmore 80 series 110.15862400 washer from Sears. The previous owner did not leave behind the manual. I am trying to find out how old it is, what is its capacity, how durable it is? etc.

I am considering getting a new Kenmore or Samsung high efficiency washer to replace it.

In terms of a possible new washer, i am looking at the Samsung - 4.0 Cu. Ft. 9-Cycle High-Efficiency Top-Loading Washer - Model: WA400PJHDWR. As well as the Kenmore 3.6 cu. ft. High-Efficiency Top-Load Washer ENERGY STAR® Model# 26002 at sears and the Whirlpool 3.6 cu. ft. Cabrio High-Efficiency Top-Load Washer ENERGY STAR® WTW5600XW.

thank you!
Mike

I have a High Efficiency front-load, which I like, but I am regretting not getting the top-load. Front loads form a tight seal, so in order to not get mold, you need to leave the door open when the washer is not in use. This is a pain. I don't believe the top-loaders have this issue.

Also bought the LG top loader and it is a wonderful machine. Quiet, efficient, and fun to watch through the glass top! It's got some crazy moves.

I've got an LG washer and dryer and I love it. I have them stacked because I'm in a condo and the hookup is in a closet, but they are full size.

I did notice a musty smell on the front-loader washer, but I just occasionally do an empty load with bleach and it goes away.

Otherwise, I'm happy. Plays a little song when it's done.

I have the Samsung 4.5 frontload and its matching dryer. We got it about 7/8 months ago. I've had front loaders for 12 yrs and never had the musty issue. We do keep the door open and never let the clothes sit for too long. I love them.

Ours plays a funky tune too. Honestly it grates on our nerves when we do a ton of laundry at once. We all sing it when it starts.

LOL! I sing my washing-machine song, too.

I don't leave the door open because I fear a cat will hop in and I will one day accidentally...well, you get the idea.

Why don't you just try the washer there before deciding? Even if it's old, if it works and gets your clothes clean you could just use that until you really need a new one. Did you try finding the manual online?

I have heard of people accidentally killing their pet cats in dryers that way, so that's why I thought of it.

The cat climbed in, the owner didn't know, threw the wet laundry in and started the dryer and killed their kitty. Sad.
