We are looking to buy a home in JerseyCity, NJ some time next year. We heard there are up and coming areas but don't don't which ones they are.
For example, some people say property near Licoln Park or Libery State Park is better now a days. While others say something near Journal Square is good. The only problem is the price difference between Journal Square and Lincoln or Liberty Park are huge. The closer we get to Journal Square the more expensive it gets (to the point where it's out of our price range and if we could afford something, it would be to small for our family.)
So we have been looking at property near and in between the 2 parks (sorta)...is there a boarder line?
Does it get sketchy as we head furher south (JerseyCity)? We didn't go that far yet.
East of the turnpike is the only truly nice/decent part of Jersey City. Journal Square is dumpy and depressing. The Heights is no better except maybe Ogden ave. Everything else is bad/horrible. Although Jersey City has some of the best/most interesting characters you'll ever meet (natives that is) I cant recommend much more than that.
Journal SQ is mainly apartments and is the hub for Jersey City and is under going urban renewal... Lincoln Park is alrite abit more congested , I wouldn't buy anything near Liberty state park or in Greenville....
Nexis4Jersey I agree Liberty State Park and Greenville seem border line or sketchy, but people (friends who don't live there) say it is changing for the better. Ha! With congrestion - I can deal with that because I'm used to it. Thanks.
The Heights are way safer and much better bang-for-ur buck when u consider so many options of transportation going to JSQ every minute!
The Heights is a sub-par neighborhood. Its been on the decline for years now. Not a very dangerous area but to be enthusiastic about the Heights does not make much sense. It isnt even easy to get into NYC from there.

Really , it appears to becoming a New Hoboken in some parts...
