So is this REALLY about saving lives then?
Well if that's the case you have much bigger fish to fry before getting to guns!

If you'd like to just be honest for once and admit you just don't like guns and while you're at it just admit you don't want ANY guns anywhere!
No true gun control advocate EVER is happy as long as there's still something out there to point at.

Your problem is that your side cannot show any proof that taking guns away affect violent crime.

This latest nut broke every law there was doing what he did and yet your ANSWER to PREVENT another one is more laws? ....and we're the unreasonable ones?

You're right though, the gun control argument has been happening all the time. Enough talk, time for action. Better to go a little too far in curtailing perceived rights if it helps to save lives.
so what action would you like taken?

After the Dunblane tragedy in Scotland, what did the Brits do? After 30-something people were killed in Australia, what did the Aussies do? Big events cause people to act - it's just human nature. You think we'd have a Dept. of Homeland Security without 9/11? These are two of our closest allies and very similar to us as Western democracies. Sometimes, as much as a shock this is to people like yourself, the world DOES do things better than us. Funny how Cons will point to Israel when talking about security measures and how "safe" they are (a relative term) but not point to other countries that may be doing things better than us. We're not the epitome of human civilization, especially when it comes to gun violence. We're more like neanderthals.
yep, europe does genocide better than us.

Use NJ gun laws uniformly across the country. That would be a very good start.

How about Chicago's gun laws? They are more strict than NJ and seem to be working out great. But I'm guessing guns are coming in from outside of Chicago. If we spread the laws across the country, it will be more effective. There's no way guns would then come in the US from outside of the country. We are effectively stopping that from happening with drugs. In fact, our government is actually supplying Mexican criminals with the same weapons you want to ban here. Let's give all of our weapons to the bad guys outside of this country and it will make us safer. Border agents would certainly agree.

Or, let's just outlaw murder and that would solve the problem entirely.

@@@@ disclaimer - this post contains a hint of sarcasm.

Right, so throw up your hands and give up. Will taking good regulations stop all crime? Of course not. But I am certain that it will prevent some deaths, and that's good enough for a start.

@Halfbaked.....a better start would be keeping CRIMINALS off the street in the first place!
Should be able to reduce crime by 80-90% since that's the percentage of crime commuted by previously convicted felons...

Do you want to solve the problem or just look for reasons to ban scary looking guns?

doesn't have to be "either or". Do both.

None of this is going to happen. Gun control never achieves political traction, and never will. In fact, each massacre reinforces the need for citizens to be armed to protect themselves. Gun sales spiked following Newtown, and the political support will follow once the emotional reactionism subsides. As it always does.

The best the gun control advocates can hope for is to ban a couple of models.

The best defense is a good offense. When the good guys are armed, the bad guys are eliminated more quickly and more permanently.

Remember, we really don't need guns for the massacres. They are notorious, but infrequent. Total deaths due to going postal and open firing doesn't amount to much in the scheme of things. We need guns to shoot the common criminals who we refuse to keep locked up thanks to the liberal philosophy of coddling the brigands and the beasts. And letting them out over and over to shoot and maim all over again.

The best gun control is a 30 year mandatory sentence for anyone convicted of using a gun in the commission of a crime. With no parole.

Instant reduction of gun deaths by 75% or more guaranteed.
