My boyfriend and I have just moved to Kennedy Blvd in Bayonne. He works in Lower Manhattan (34th st & 1st ave) and were trying to figure out the best way to commute using public transportation. Taking into consideration travel time and cost. Too much googling has me more confused. Help!

Take a bus or light rail (depends on where you are on Kennedy) to Exchange Place, take the PATH to World Trade Center, then walk to the Lexington Avenue subway (4/5/6), then walk to 1st avenue. Three fares.

Thank you for the info. I've also heard about a ferry. Is that also an alternative?

The ferries are pretty expensive ($8.00 one way), but they're an option. You could take a bus one of the Jersey City ferry terminals serving 39th street (nywaterways.com), then the ferry, then the bus (free) to 34th & 3rd. They've been talking about a Bayonne ferry forever but I think there's no current plans.

How did 34th Street get to be considered "Lower Manhattan?" LOL

That's on the east side of Midtown. Not remotely Lower Manhattan.

Kennedy Boulevard to 34th and 1st?

-Take the 10 (or the 119) bus from Kennedy Boulevard to Journal Square, and then take the PATH to Herald Square. From there it's just a short cab ride.

-Take the 119 bus to PABT, S Train to Grand Central, then 6 train down to 33rd and Park.

-Walk a few blocks to the HBLR to Newport/Hoboken, repeat 33rd Street PATH train directions.

-Again walk to HBLR, stop at Exchange Place, take PATH to WTC, 4/5 train from Fulton Street, transfer to the 6 at Union Square, and again get off at 33rd and Park.

*exhales*

(Current Bayonne resident who does the NYC commute.)

another option from the path to 33rd st would be to take the path to 14th st and take the L train to 1st ave and take the m15(select bus runs limited stops) to 34th and 1st only 3 stops on those buses or take the L train to the 6 train at lexington ave to 34th and lexington ave

You can take the #10 bus to Journal Square for the PATH, take that to 33rd Street, and then take the M34 bus to 1st Avenue.

I believe a 2-zone bus pass costs $72 a month (and it's also valid on the HBLR in case there's a problem with the bus), and then the PATH costs $65 for a monthly pass (or 40 trips for $60), and then the M34 costs $2.25.

It almost seems like a waste to take the M34 for such a short distance, though. I think it's about a mile or so from 6th Avenue to 1st Avenue, so if you want, you can just take the bus when the weather is bad.

Is driving to NYC from Bayonne in the morning a good idea?
I am planning to move there and will like to see my commute options.

The Holland is a nightmare it crams down into 2 lanes and in the morning is not something I would want to do. My family lives in Bayonne and I am there very often I have used the tunnel twice and both times I wish I had just took the train.
