Who do you think the indigenous people in that area are descended from, Yugoslavians?
Your greenness on the subject attests to your level of erudition. I have no problem debating
posters who espouse different viewpoints, but when one simply chooses to ignore scientific
fact, that is where my debate ends.

The one thing that everyone should take from this.

The people are called the Maya (noun), their things are described as Mayan (adjective). This also follows for the Inca and their Incan things. While we're on the subject the people who live in Afghanistan are Afghans, while afghani refers to the currency.

Is there an Internet Law that I am unaware of that states that before terminating one's participation in a discussion, one must announce his intent to that effect in the form of a proclamation? I have not been doing that and just want to assure that I am not in violation of correct protocols.

Anyway...

A popular absurdity is linking oneself to "indigenous" peoples from antiquity. Thinking that one has some intrinsic value or uniqueness by virtue of that "link". It's actually a collectivistic notion that stems from racism. We all do it to a certain extent, but it's utter nonsense. Like when someone proclaims that they are 1/38th Cherokee. Or that they share some obscure bloodline with Napoleon. Like, so what? Does that make or change who or what you are?

This is a memorable scene about "heritage" from True Romance. I think you'll like it (NSFW, bad language)

That does illustrate some of the potential madness endemic to overindulgence in one's race and culture.

The Mayans never predicted the world would end on 12/21. It's simply when their calendar ended. No one knows why they chose that date. It was people who are living among us now who extrapolated that the ending of the calendar meant the world was going to end.

Polish. Poles would be the collective noun for the people of Poland though.
