Hey, right now I live in New Brunswick and work on Washington Blvd. in Jersey City. Using public transportation, right now it takes me a total of 75 minutes door to door.
I just got this job and after suffering through the lengthy commute for the last 3 months, I've decided to move closer to shorten the commute time.
I'm looking on feedback about commuting by car from the Cranford/Westfield/Clark area to Jersey City. Part would be a short drive on the Parkway, the rest on 78E toward Holland Tunnel. How bad is the traffic on these two highways at this location during rush hour? Googlemaps says the driving time is 30 minutes without traffic. Am I looking at significantly more when considering rush hour traffic in the equation?
Thanks for any help,
Sials

Many people I know working at Newport area like you drive to Harrison and park the car there and take PATH to Newport that save lots of time.
Another route is to drive to Liberty State Park and the Light weight Rail over to Newport.
The last few miles to Newport area is where the traffic are, and also parking is about $22 a day.

I commuted 78 for almost 10 years. You couldn't pay me to do it again. I live about 40 minutes away without traffic. When it's good, it's rare, but I would make it in that time. I had many 3-4 hour commutes, especially when it snowed. There's always something on that highway. Stick with public transportation. At least you only have a handful of days per year that the time of commuting is extended. Driving, you only have a handful that are good.
Hope this helps

The parkway to 78 can be 30 minutes alone during rush hour, and the turnpike extension backs up frequently. Your commute will definitely not be 30 minutes from Clark unless you're leaving the house at 5:30 am. It could average less than the 70 minutes you're currently doing, but there will be many days that it will be more (especially coming home in the summer.....).
