Hi all!
What towns are considered inland in Monmouth and Ocean counties? Has FEMA revised the floodmaps yet for NJ? Thanks in advance.

Here is a link to the latest advisory flood maps from FEMA. Type your town in the search box to see a closeup of the area you're interested in. As of Dec. 18, 2012.

There are a lot of them. Much of Western Monmouth is quite nice-rolling hills and farmland. Inland Ocean Township is the Pine Barrens. Also, many of the towns in Ocean County are quite large (Lacey, Stafford, etc...) so it's possible to live in a town that has a coastal flood zone and be nowhere near it.

You just have to be inland ENOUGH. I had no flooding whatsoever, but I'm still only a 15-minute drive to the beach.

Thanks so much. Seeing the devastation folks faced after Sandy, really scared me. I really hope all the victims recover soon, and nothing like it happens again.

If you are couple of miles away from a tidal zone you were OK for the most part. In some towns close to the ocean, bay and or tidal rivers homes flooded 8 or ten blocks away from the body of water. Many of these homes were not required to have flood insurance from the banks so the owners opted not to have it. In the new FEMA maps it appears FEMA used a satelite view of the flooding and the homes where the water reached are now going to be required to have flood insurance if you have a mortgage. My home was technically not in a flood zone according to FEMA but it flooded. Fortunately I had flood insurance but it hasn't helped yet because the company can't pay unless the congress releases the fed. aid to refund the FIP. 3 months later the jerks in congress have voted to release the money so now maybe some people can rebuild.

Gotta love congress. They take their pay (and vacations) quick, but take their sweet time about helping the very people who pay their salaries. I pray the rebuilding & recovery process is easy on all. Thanks for the info.!

LOL, I think I can handle a few too many strip malls. Thanks for the suggestion.
