Wow living in total fear makes it sound like the JSQ area is a warzone or something. That's some overdramatic crap if you ask me! I live on Highland Avenue about a 10 min. walk to the JSQ Path and as a white female in her 20s I find the neighborhood to be quite safe for someone with street smarts. I come home late and walk down JFK Blvd and no one has ever bothered me and there are lots of people around. Lots of children in the neighborhood and friendly neighbors. Some people need security guards to make them feel safe I guess. Jersey City has come a long way and sure there are areas to avoid (I wouldn't venture past Duncan or too far down Bergen just now), but it's not like it's Brownsville and I get mad that people make it out to be the ghetto! Don't take too much stock in what people say, check out the neighborhood for yourself as you are the best judge of what kind of neighborhood makes you comfortable.

I lived very near Journal Square for 2 yrs and lived in total fear as the streets r not safe at nights and my husband had night shifts.
Jersey City is definately developing and getting better but if I were in your place I would look for something in downtown jersey city with a doorman and security.
Newport and Exchange Place are good areas in downtown JC. The place I live right now is on route 440 and is a closed community with security at the gates.
Unfortunately you will not get anything for $1500/.
Believe me when I say you do not want to live in fear so its better u shell out a little more and have peace of mind.
Good Luck !!

downtown Jersey City. Newport, Exchange place, Paulus Hook. Locate these neighborhoods. I would recommend Jersey City over Brooklyn, especially if you are coming from abroad. Brooklyn, I'd say has more of a sub culture. People compare Brooklyn to Jersey City, and probably would recommend Bklyn. But in my honest opinion, Jersey City is the way to go.

Hey I live at Glenwood! I feel the area is very safe indeed. There are lots of families living in the houses and apartment buildings in the area, and with St. Peter's College there are tons of students around too. There are some corner stores, pizza/fast food over on Bergen Ave and Lincoln Park is a nice asset, about 10 minute walk farther south down JFK. I walk around at all hours of the day and night, and never have any reason to feel uncomfortable. It's a good community.

I have lived in the area around St Peters and it is o.k. and affordable. It never really felt like a "neighborhood" to me. I just slept there and did most of my shopping and living elsewhere. I worked nights when I lived there so walking around was ok but some of the border areas there I would not walk around at night. There were and are many random incidents especially in the evenings in some of those areas. In the day time it did not seem to be the case as much. Any actual real life poster should check out craigslist and the local papers such as the Jersey Journal which I believe has classifieds online. If you are going to have a car there are many other communities you could check out other than JC.

Default Moving to Journal Square

How safe are the apartments on St Pauls avenue on the north side and in the Marion section on the west.
Thanks
