No obnoxious "typical lefty northerner" will ever succeed in discouraging me from posting.

Why? To be nice? Companies can people daily without notice or regard for what's going on in YOUR life. Got a mortgage payment, sick parent or a trip coming up - screwU, loyal employee. Pack your sh*t and get out of here.

It doesn't necessarily have to be for the employer, although IMO it's stupid to burn bridges (I work now for a company I quit and came back to a year later). If I quit my job without notice, the people who would pay for it would be my co-workers, and the residents I work with (nursing home). I'll take integrity and good karma over sour grapes, as it's served me well so far.

Here is something to think about. The new company you are going to is going to think about the fact you can start right away and not give notice at your current job.

You are condoning law-breaking. That's reprehensible. Get your moral priorities straightened out now.
Better than assaulting someone, which carries a penalty for up to two years for Third Degree Assault. Criminal mischief for damaging property worth less then $2,000 is 4th degree offense and is punishable up to 18 months in prison. So if I had to pick one to get convicted of, I'd take the criminal mischief. Not to mention, assault on someone that has your address information, guarantees you'll be caught, the other crime unless your completely incompetent, chances of getting caught was slim.

As for morel priorities, someone that offers you a job then tells you they changed there mind the day you show up for work is moral? At the very least they could have called him before he put in notice at this other job.

Hell yes, he got screwed. No arguments there. I hope it works out for the OP.

To do the standup thing, I guess? Maybe you're right, and that's naive, but I'm thinking of the actual people I work with and for...the individuals...and I can't imagine turning on my heel and saying SEEYA! I agree with ocngirl about burning bridges. But LOL @ "Pack your sh*t and get out of here". Haha. That's pretty much how it went when my whole department got layed off a few years ago.

I dunno...I thought it used to be standard practice to give 2 weeks notice. I guess things are changing. Something to think about, I know.
