Whatever your throughts are about this, I'm willing to guarantee that once this starts you're start hearing about more people losing their homes, jobs and families due to being addicted.
In reality a gambler never hits the big one and is always oh so close...
Yes and No... For the record I'm not getting political I hate both sides equally ..
I was a affiliate of a few poker and gambling sites back in the day and was making good money off of commissions..
But when Bush passed the Patriot Act a lot of programs (Including The Ones I Promoted) were shut down and investigated because some of them were laundering money.. And well they played the Anti Money Laundering to Prevent Terrorism angle.. To shut them down..
In reality there were making non taxable money hand over fist and the government didn't like that soooooo they rest is history..
I'm not saying Interstate gambling is not an issue neither but there was always ways around that..
The issue is tax. Many if not all of these gaming site are registered aboard and US government cannot tax their profit. This is the reason it got shut down.

But they also used the money laundering excuse because most programs were set up in other countries servers and so forth and the Shady Programs kept their money Off Shore so when the U.S Government could not touch it they said it was money laundering to possible terrorist organizations and included that part of the Patriot Act ..
I'm still owed a huge check or two by a few programs that were so called under investigation for this reason and I will never get them..
I believe that legally you must be a NJ resident to play online. The Fed has a real issue with interstate gambling, which is why all the online poker sites got shut down a little while back. Currently I believe Nevada is toying with allowing interstate poker games online that are run by the Vegas casinos, but I don't think they have acted on it yet.
You have to be physically present in New Jersey, but you don't have to be a NJ resident. This is so it will be possible for tourists, visitors, etc, to play online while they are temporarily in New Jersey.
I think this is great. I no longer have to drive 2 hours to AC to play poker.
I play poker and it'll never make me lose real money, an oldie called "Microsoft Casino" played offline.
