I was listening to music today, it got me thinking. Does anyone have a favorite NJ band from our bar days as teenagers (drinking age was 17 at that time) Mine were Holme, Backstreets, Flossie, Bystander, Cats on a Smooth Surface, Lynch Boys (for those of us who hung out at Jimmy Byrnes) I knew most of the guys and were friends with them. Boy, do I miss those days! How about you? Any fun stories?
I very recently stumbled on this website, and as someone who was born in NJ, a LONG time ago, this discussion caught my eye. Due to a job transfer on my father's part, when I was fairly young, the family moved to western NY, where I've been ever since. Used to go back to NJ, once in a while, and my cousin and her boyfriend (now her husband) used to take me to some of the "hot spots" along the shore, and although I don't remember the names of any of the bands, we did hear some really good music.
However, there was a band that was supposedly from Secaucus, called 'Another Pretty Face', that came up to Rochester, NY, to play in one of the clubs here. I saw them several times, in the late 70s, when their drummer was future 'Bon Jovi' drummer, Tico Torres.
Best , I don't know about that. There were many and there were many clubs. Like I said before some clubs were more for locals some of the others were for summer squatters or bennies. Matter of taste.
OMG, I remember packing em in at Jimmy Brynes on a weekend. We were.so lucky there was never a fire there. No one would have made it out, but boy did we have a blast. Sunday afternoons at DJais. 7 beers.for a dollar. Those were the days.
Wow, this is an old post but I had to pipe in.
I thought the same thing every time I was at Jimmy Byrnes Sea Girt Inn. If that place ever had an emergency, we were DONE!
Remember how the floors shook with the music?
Great place. What ever happened to the old double decker bus?
This is old but these Guys played the Ship's Wheel in Brielle, Parker House in Sea Girt and Art Stock's the Royal Manor South all through the 70's and 80's.
Oh wait, it looks like they were from Philly. Somewhere along the line I got it in my head that they were from New Jersey. (Maybe some of them grew up there?)
