We are planning to relocate to the Toms River area and are drawn to Beachwood. Coming from the suburbs of Philadelphia, there are many things that I can do with my 4-year-old and hope to continue in similar types of activities. Aside from the beach activities, what does this area have to offer families with young children (farms open to the public, children's museums, gardens or arboretums, zoo, horse riding, roller/ice skating, etc.)?
You can add that Ocean county College has a planetarium.
The Ocean County Library system is one of the best in the country with a really nice library right in Toms River
Pt. Pleasant has Jenkinson's Aquarium
Toms River has Insectropolis
There are plenty of u-pick farms within 30 minutes. Depends on what you want to pick and the season.
There are also different nature programs at Cattus Island and Island Beach State Park - however I'm not sure how much they'll have this year since they are still recovering from Sandy.
There are also plenty of sports opportunities: T-ball, soccer, martial arts, etc.
While I don't have specifics for you I have a friend who lives in Beachwood and she has a 5 year old. They ALWAYS have a ton of activities planned through local events so there is definitely a lot to do in the area for small children. I'll try and get some more info when I talk to her.
