?? re: Starting a Family Child Care business in NJ (Hackensack: inspections, office)

If there is anybody who is a Family Child Care provider-I'm looking for information on how to get started doing this. I have some information from Catholic Charities, but am hoping to hear from an actual person who is a provider the steps they took to get started. How did you get your clients? How long did it take to get liscensed? How do you determine what to charge? How long did it take to get the required training and certificates? Anything else you can think of that would be helpful-I'm grateful

Where are you located? I did this years ago in Bergen County through the Office for Children in Hackensack. Back in the 90s each county had a social service agency that provided the certification, training, and inspections.

It's a great job to have and I loved almost every minute of it. My kids are grown now. But it is a lot of work - I did it full time and each day lasted about 10 hours start to finish of having other people's kids around.

I think registration is voluntary, I found it was well worth it in Bergen because you are given referrals and opportunities for networking that you wouldn't otherwise have. Good Luck!
