I recently got a job in Oradell and I am looking for a young trendy place to live. I am a 22 year old recent grad (female) and want to live in a place where there are people my age with a decent bar scene. I have heard Montclair or Ridgewood are good places. I want to be able to walk to the trendy downtown area for shops and restaurants.

I was thinking about Hoboken, but i think it would be too much of a commute with the traffic.

I just don't really know where to go!

I need help!

Where are you coming from?
Hartford, CT

Why are you moving?
Job relocation

Where will you be working ?
Oradell, NJ

Will you buy or rent?
Rent
What is your budget ?
$1,500

What kind of place are you looking for ?
Young, trendy with a walkable downtown area. Decent restaurant and bar scene. I don't want to be bored.

List three things that are important to you in order of importance.
downtown area, nightlife, charming

I think you're on the right track with Montclair.

Do you think Hackensack is a good option?

Though Ridgewood is closer and an easier daily commute, Montclair is not too far - about a 30-40 min drive depending on traffic and also is an easy commute to NYC by car or train. Montclair I think might be a younger crowd but they only have a few liquor licences so not many bars - almost all restaurants are BYO. Hoboken definitely has a good bar scene but tons of flooding and parking issues along with a messier commute. I live near Montclair and it's certainly trendy, diverse and very popular with both young adults and families. I don't know much about Ridgewood though - hopefully someone else can offer their two cents.

Hoboken is far and away your best option for living, for commuting there are better options. Have you thought about the train from Hoboken to Oradell? It's less than 40 minutes direct(although times might not work for you). Might be something to consider if your office in Oradell is by the train station. Also something to consider is that, if driving, you would be going against traffic for the most part if you commuted from Hoboken to Oradell, so you might actually be able to make it in less 40 minutes driving.

I like Ridgewood. If everyone's suggesting Montclair, distance-wise, you might want to look at Nyack (in New York) as well. You'll probably want to fill out the questionnaire found as a sticky at the top of the New Jersey forums for everyone to better assist.

yes, the train from hoboken to oradell is an idea depending on where you are working, as hoboken seems like a great town for you. montclair is also a good option.

Montclair, NJ or Nyack, NY fit your criteria. Ridgewood is adorable, but it's more for families.

Commuting from Oradell to Montclair is a mistake I think...I would opt for Ridgewood.
