I'm considering taking over the lease for an apartment that has a temporary wall for the living room. Per the current lease holder, the wall was installed by the apartment handyman before management started banning those walls. I would like to keep the wall but I'm concerned that I'll be forced to take the wall down at my expense right after I move in. Since I will be signing an official lease with the management (for takeover) and the wall is already in the apt. before I moved in, if management requests the removal of the wall, can I demand that they will be responsible for it?
Ask management about the rules governing the wall before you sign any lease.
If they'll allow the wall to stay than be sure to get that in writing.
If they want the wall to come down than you can either:
a) ask management to remove the wall at their expense before signing a lease
b) not sign the lease
BTW, is this in Newport?

Reason: addition
Thought so. Years ago one or more Newport buildings were found to have some apartments with temp. walls put up iilegally & many more people living in the units than legally allowed.
