Does anyone know how traffic is on 27 during rush hour and non-peak hours? Will I be able to make it from New Brunswick to Princeton within an hour (non-peak hours)? Thanks.

Definitely under an hour during non-peak hours. The traffic lights will slow you down.
The traffic in Princeton lightens up a bit with the students gone for the summer.
It can be pretty bad. It took me over half an hour to go from Finnegans Lane to the entrance of Princeton at rush hour. You may be better off taking Route 1. As someone mentioned, 27 has a lot of traffic lights that get pretty backed up.

27 is a 2-lane road (1 each way) most of the way down, except for two brief stretches through New Brunswick/Somerset and Kendall Park where it widens up to 4, but only narrows back down shortly. I live in North Brunswick and always take Rt 1 to go to Princeton.
