With the decline of the pension plan the past 30 yrs and the rise of the DIY 401k (a massive gift to Wall St.) there will be a lot of ppl roasting rodents under bridges.
And something most employees don't know - and employers won't readily admit - is that participants pay all of the 401k plan expenses through the fees charged on the investments. Most employers pay nothing or very little.
Generally speaking, if the returns on 2 comparable funds are nearly the same, always go with the cheaper one. Higher fees reduce returns & cost you thousands over the years. Those paying high investment fees in a plan are esentially subsidizing participants who invest in low-cost investments like index funds.
