Trulia currently shows 5 SF homes with 3+bds for sale in West Windsor for under the OP's price range, so it should not be off the list. (but I'd definitely suggest casting a wider net for more housing options, so adding Plainsboro is a good idea, since both WW and Plainsboro share the same excellent school district)

I wrote "they might be out of his price range...", I wasn't sure myself.

Plainsboro, WW and Princeton are in general a bit more expensive than the rest of its neighboring towns.

Plainsboro, WW and Princeton are more expensive because they are highly coveted areas in which to live, one of the main reasons for this is the top tier schools. Housing costs in Plainsboro is generally less than in neighboring WW, despite sharing a school district.

Thank you both for such great suggestions and information! Definitely noticed the differences in homes you get for the same money comparing Howell to WW. Not so much paying for the home as you are paying to live in the WW district.

Yes, bottom line is towns with great schools are going to have higher housing prices. FWIW you may also want to check out this interactive map when comparing areas/schools. Interactive Map: High School SAT scores - NJ Spotlight Clearly looking at the stats, the Howell schools do not stack up favorably. The ave. SAT score for the school is lower than the state ave. by 40 pts, and the HSPA scores are similarly not so good. If you are looking for good schools, Howell is not where you want. For comparison, WW/Plainsboro you'll find the ave. SAT score is 1846, and similarly great stats for HSPA and AP scores.

Thats a useful tool! Showing that to the wife soon as she comes home. Interesting, a school in Neptune scored over 1700. From what I've seen in that area, not a very friendly looking town.

I believe you'll find that high scoring school is a magnet school - one that students apply to attend and have to meet rather strict criteria for admittance, rather than a typical school district that must educate all in their district.

I would like be in area that is relatively rural. Want to escape the feel of the city as much as possible (neighbors being right on top of you). Anyways, thanks again for all your suggestions thus far. Much appreciated! Cheers.
From what I remember of Highland Park, homes are very close to one another and there's a lot of traffic. I used to live there.

Look into Cranbury, NJ. It has a nice walkable town. Most of the homes are pricey, but here are a few that are on the outside of the town:

148 Broadway Road, Cranbury NJ - Trulia
126 Plainsboro Road, Cranbury NJ - Trulia
39 Haypress Road, Cranbury NJ - Trulia

Allied Health is a public academy. It is NOT part of the Neptune school district. The Monmouth Co Academies are arguably the best school district in the country (I might be biased as I work at one). They are available to anyone in Mon Co but it is very competitive to get in.
