Morristown got much nicer over the past 2 years. Great walking downtown on south Street

Westfield is a great walking downtown.

Short list, Morristown, Summit, Madison, South Orange, Millburn, Westfield. These are all within a 30 minute drive of Montclair. Rutherford is BYOB so i wouldn't suggest that.

Ridgewood in Bergen county is supposed to fit that bill. It is right around 30 mins from Montclair though. For that you might as well drive into Hoboken

Having lived there i think if Clifton invested $ into Main and the streets off of it, it could be as cool a destination as Montclair. IIRC when i lived there 10+ yrs ago Starbuck's had turned them down for a shop on Main...not "fancy" enough. That might've kickstarted something. It's a great oppurtunity for the city if they develop it.

I don't know if this is a bit too far for you, but Westfield and Summit in Union County also have great downtowns. Cranford's is good, too, but I would prefer Westfield and Summit overall for restaurants and dessert. Cranford, on the other hand, has great, lively bars IMO.

Yea right. The problem with Main St., or as it's called here, the Passaic to Paterson Highway, is that at night it can get rough. I don't pick-up @ San Remo's anymore because of the people walking around. The Dunkin Donuts near Washington Ave gets a little feisty ( but so does the one near city hall; with the cops so close there isn't much trouble ).
