Let's face it, we live in a state and country that barely has resources to fix existing roads, rails and bridges. Upgrading NJ-NY connection is way too expensive by any standard. And even if we have the funding, it is a infrastructure change that is a massive undertaking. Not going to happen anytime soon.

Thanks, I didn't know that. I'd be willing to go to Rahway, it's not too far from me.

Haha!
I know. Expensive, difficult, and would cause mayhem. We're so densely populated that adding additional lines and tracks would probably be hard and cause a lot of issues. It's like how they're planning on revamping the Goethals Bridge - they have their ways, but I don't know how they're going to be able to do it while it's still in use if they're planing a full overhaul (which it needs desperately)! Engineering is pretty amazing.

It's not being overhauled. A new cable-stayed bridge is being built to the south of the existing bridge. The existing bridge will remain in service until the new bridge is completed, probably 2017-18, and then the existing bridge will be taken down.

Amtrak is spearheading the effort to build another two-track tunnel into Penn Station. It's called the Gateway project. It should be cheaper, and far more useful than ARC was.

If they charged more for ridership tickets and scrapped unions for conductors, we'd have improved rail.
