The wife and I decided to have the floors in several rooms refinished. Can anyone suggest a reliable, clean, contractor that will sand my oak floors and also apply a sealer and a final finish? I do not want a contractor that sub contracts to someone else. I live in Livingston and always like to hire local businessmen. Thank you in advance.

We used Blesing's Hardwood Flooring out of Clifton, NJ in 2012. We did a lot of research and finally settled on them after hearing rave reviews and the fact that the owner, who personally oversees each project was quoted in the NY Times. Not that that in it of itself was what won us over but it certainly helped that he was established enough to be quoted. They stripped the carpet, sanded, stained on day 1. Poly on day 2. 2nd coat of poly was done 2 days later on day 4. We were more than pleased with their work.
Here's the low down on the cost we negotiated:
1000 Sq-Ft: $2.50/Sq-Ft = $2,500
One set of stairs: $350 (12 steps)
Carpet removal disposal: $450
Supply/install primed quarter round: $1.75/sq-ft : we had 340 sq-ft = $595
2 threshold moldings at kitchen doorway: $20 each = $40
Total (including cash discount) = $3,800
