Couldn't help but notice a swarm of NY plates down in Stone Harbor, N.Wildwood,Wildwood,Wildwood Crest, CapeMay the past couple weeks. Also an awful lot of Quebec and out of state tags, Mass,Ct.,Vt,Ohio etc etc.. I can always remember Quebec visitors but there seems to be Much more of an influx than I can remember when it seemed mostly NJ and Pa tags in the summer months.
Can anyone verify if Cape May County has taken on more of a wider regional/international tourist mecca?
And What is happening with the steady influx of NYer's to CapeMay County?
Probably from people passing by Ocean county area due to reports of damage from Sandy.
Since many decisions on summer vacation rentals/reservations have to made in late winter/spring, there was a lot of outright hotel closings, damage and uncertainess on what was going to be available in Monmouth/Ocean county in the summer, probably a lot of people went further South, which had a much less affect from Sandy.
Will see what happens next year, Except for the direct hit areas, (Ortley beach, Mantolokin etc), Ocean county is coming back. You can see it every week.
Rebuild/Repair in these areas would be a lot faster if there was not uncertainty over what FEMA requirements are and what affect what you do or not do will have on the cost of flood insurance, in these areas. Many many homeowners are serioulsy considering just walking away from their houses because they just cannot afford to comply with the cost of what FEMA wants and even if they do, what flood insurance will cost.
You can see it every week, more and more houses are being knocked down and in dumpsters, some to build new house on stilts and some just to reduce property tax and pay tax on raw land, while they think.
I think that boater1 said it best. But also the local political powers that be,do push tourist more and more every year. They want tourist hear to spend there money but they seem to forget theres only so much room, there too many people here for our infrastructure, its not up to date, roads, bridges, signs, etc.
